Terms of Service

OnlyPet lets you search and view animals listed by verified shelters and rescues, and contact a shelter about an animal you're interested in. Browsing and sending an inquiry never requires an account. Optionally, you can create a light account to save favorites and searches. Shelters and rescues can register, get verified by our admin team, and manage their own animal listings.

OnlyPet does not itself operate a shelter, does not own any animal listed on the site, and does not process any adoption fees or payments — those are handled entirely between you and the shelter, off our platform. Donations are not part of the service at this time.

• You're responsible for keeping your account credentials confidential and for all activity under your account.
• You agree to provide accurate information when registering, and to keep it up to date.
• You must be old enough, under the laws that apply to you, to enter into this agreement. OnlyPet is not directed at children under 13 (see our Privacy Policy).

When using OnlyPet, you agree not to:

• Submit false, misleading, or fraudulent information in an inquiry, application, or account.
• Use inquiries or conversation messages to send spam, harassment, threats, or anything unrelated to a genuine interest in adopting or caring for the animal, or to solicit, arrange, or demand any payment, deposit, or fee.
• Scrape, bulk-download, or systematically extract listing data other than through normal browsing.
• Attempt to access another user's or shelter's account, or any data you're not authorized to see.
• Interfere with or disrupt the platform's normal operation, including circumventing rate limits or security controls.

Shelters and rescues that register on OnlyPet are responsible for the accuracy of every listing they publish — including an animal's health, temperament, and availability status — to the best of their knowledge at the time of posting, and for updating a listing promptly once an animal is no longer available.

A shelter's listings only become publicly visible after our admin team verifies the organization. OnlyPet may reject or revoke verification, or remove/archive a listing, at its discretion — for example, for inaccurate, abusive, or inappropriate content.

Shelters remain solely responsible for complying with all laws and regulations that apply to them, including applicable state and local animal-welfare recordkeeping requirements for the animals they list.

Health, temperament, and other information about an animal is entered by the listing shelter or rescue, not independently verified by OnlyPet. We do our best to give shelters good tools to record this information accurately, but we make no representation or warranty about its accuracy or completeness. Always ask the shelter directly and meet the animal in person before making an adoption decision.

A shelter may invite a veterinarian it works with to review the shelter's own medical records on OnlyPet. When a veterinarian countersigns an entry, they are stating only whether that entry is consistent with the veterinarian's own records — it is a record cross-check, not a diagnosis, treatment, or health assessment of any animal, and it is not veterinary advice to any adopter or to the public. OnlyPet is not a veterinary service: it does not provide, host, or facilitate veterinary care, advice, diagnosis, or prescriptions, and nothing on the platform creates a veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR) between anyone. Each shelter chooses and vouches for the veterinarians it invites; OnlyPet does not verify veterinary licenses, and each veterinarian remains solely responsible for their own licensure and professional conduct.

Submitting an inquiry through OnlyPet does not reserve an animal or guarantee an adoption. Any adoption decision, application, fee, and contract is strictly between you and the shelter — OnlyPet is not a party to it.

Some animals are listed as found strays that a shelter is holding during a reclaim period. If you believe a found animal is yours, the reclaim contact goes to the holding shelter — OnlyPet does not verify ownership, and whether an animal is returned is decided by the shelter, in person, with proof of ownership. OnlyPet never charges, requests, or forwards any payment or reward in connection with a found animal; anyone demanding money in OnlyPet's name is not us. Any hold or reclaim date shown is the shelter's own — OnlyPet does not set, guarantee, or enforce legal reclaim periods.

The OnlyPet name, logo, and site design belong to us. Shelters retain ownership of the photos and descriptions they upload, and grant OnlyPet a license to display that content on the platform for the purpose of listing the animal for adoption.

We may suspend or terminate your access to OnlyPet, or remove a listing, if we reasonably believe you've violated these Terms, misused the platform, or if a shelter's verification is revoked. You may stop using the service, or ask us to delete your account, at any time (see our Privacy Policy for what deleting an account means for the data we hold).

We may review conversation content for safety and moderation, and may restrict or disable messaging for anyone who abuses it. We are not obligated to monitor conversations, and reviewing them does not make us responsible for what users write.

OnlyPet is provided 'as is' and 'as available', without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, OnlyPet will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, or from any interaction, adoption, or transaction between you and a shelter facilitated through the platform.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or your use of OnlyPet will be resolved in the state or federal courts located in Los Angeles County, California, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

If we make material changes to these Terms, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, post a notice on the site. Continuing to use OnlyPet after changes take effect means you accept the updated Terms.
